After reading countless discussions and watching numerous videos on deep conditioning, I noticed many ladies adding oils, honey, and other goodies to an instant conditioner to deep condition their hair. Seeing how great their hair looked, I decided to give it a try. I tried mixing oils with Suave Humectant and Herbal Essences Hello Hydration. I didn't mix the two conditioners together; I used them on two separate occasions. The mixtures gave me great slip and softness, but it disappeared upon rinsing. My hair also received little moisture so I was quite disappointed. Deep conditioning with instant conditioners wasn't very effective for me. I kept wondering why it didn't work. I decided to grab my Kindle and flip through The Science of Black Hair, and I found my answer. It stated, “Because of their high water content and the large molecular size of their ingredients, instant conditioners only coat the outer parts of the hair shaft and do not deep condition well. Instant conditioners wear off soon after the wash session.” I told you this book has all the answers. After reading this excerpt, I begin wondering is it the extra ingredients that’s really nourishing the strands. What are your thoughts on this?
